Welcome to Kununurra Scenic Bus Tours.
Kununurra is in the far north of Western Australia, 3040km north of Perth and is part of the Kimberley Region. Nearby are many iconic destinations such as the astonishing Bungle Bungles (290kms via the Great Northern Highway), the Argyle Diamond Mine, Lake Argyle and the Ord River. There are many reasons to visit the area, but none more so than to discover why Kununurra was first established 50 years ago.
The word Kununurra comes from the English pronunciation of Gunanurang in the Miriwoong language with a general meaning of "Big Waters" having become the popular definition or "Big River". (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Surrounding Kununurra is the Ord Valley - one of the most diverse farming areas in Australia. The construction of the Diversion Dam in the early 1960's, followed by the Ord River Dam in the early 1970's, created an irrigation scheme which has seen the township of Kununurra flourish with a very successful agricultural industry.
The township itself has a lot to offer with indigenous art galleries as well as a contemporary art gallery and even a European orientated art gallery. You can enjoy locally produced rum, shop for unique pink Argyle Diamonds and enjoy fresh produce from the weekend market (May to September). New to the area is the Sandalwood Factory which showcases the new era of Indian Sandalwood in the region.
Surrounded by water, the Ord Valley is very scenic and permanent waterholes, springs and waterfalls can be found at different times of the year. Gorges and fantastic rock formations will take your breath away.
